Above: Students multi-tasking to meet deadlines; Summer 2007 Swiss Finance Program in Switzerland

An Open Letter From A Parent:

"Dear Swiss Finance:

I want to thank you again for the wonderful program you put together for students to learn investment banking and other related subjects that they may not have the opportunity to learn in school. As the mother of one of the youngest students in your program, I initially had many concerns about having him attend the Swiss Finance Academy [at his young age]. However, I felt comfortable sending him to your program because I was assured that he would gain a once-in-a-lifetime experience through this unique learning program. Andrew says he’ll never forget the experience he gained through the three weeks of rigorous learning. He found the program to be very intense and challenging, yet rewarding. He was quite proud that he survived such a fast-paced program and came away with such an unforgettable learning experience.

I found that Andrew matured so much after his short session at the Swiss Finance. He is now even more determined to do well in college, and he has set a goal to finish his undergraduate degree with a major in Economics and a minor in Mathematics. He also plans to continue his education with graduate studies towards an MBA or Ph.D. I have felt his positive energy resulting from his time at your summer program, and greatly appreciate your contributions. I am sure my son, now one of your alumni, will keep in touch with you and inform you of his progress in his undergraduate studies and future career developments. I am confident that all your students are proud to have taken part in the Swiss Finance summer program, and I wish your organization continued success in future years.

Best wishes,

Elaine Nieh

(Mother of Andrew Nieh, summer class 2008)

Swiss Finance Meets the Challenge
Trends in technology, globalization, outsourcing and banking consolidation are putting unprecendented demands on college graduates and MBAs. As the competition for jobs amongst recent graduates as well as experienced professionals becomes increasingly steep, one needs more than good grades from a prestegious university to successfully compete for top-notch jobs in any industry, and particularly in investment banking, consulting and business management. While many students emerge from college with a rich, theoretical knowledge of many subjects, they often lack the applied, practical knowledge and skills that are essential for not only finding a great job, but also to securing advancement opportunities as they progress along their chosen career paths. Employers now demand practical skills from new hires, because they can afford to. Swiss Finance Academy offers a rigorous curriculum designed to launch your daughter or son into a successful career.

Unlike other university programs with business and finance curricula, our programs are taught by executives, entrepreneurs and graduate business school professors with extensive industry as well as teaching experience. They have been in the “trenches” of the business and Wall Street world, and can offer your son or daughter the kind of applied, practical knowledge, insights and skills that they need to succeed in the real world. The perspective they will receive at Swiss Finance goes beyond the theoretical knowledge and deeply into the applied career building skills. Our students learn a framework for success as they emerge from our rigorous programs with vital, marketable business skills which distinguish graduates of our programs from other job-seekers. They will also be equipped with a global network of lifelong friends – the business executives, leaders, investment bankers and entrepreneurs of not only today but also tomorrow.

If your son or daughter is looking for a challenging yet rewarding experience that will give him or her the capacity to excel in any career, we encourage you to seriously consider Swiss Finance Academy. An investment in one of our programs is a very wise investment in your daughter or son’s success.

FAQs for Parents and Families

Can parents/spouses/family members attend a Swiss Finance Academy event?
Yes! There are several ways for parents, spouses, and families to get involved.

We welcome parents, spouses and family members to attend our closing dinner ceremony, held at the end of the program. The event is a testimony to the strong sense of community Swiss Finance Academy creates in its members, and includes speeches, fun presentations and videos by students, dinner, and a certificate ceremony.

In some circumstances, spouses may wish to stay with the participating partner in Switzerland. We welcome couples and families to attend! Verbier is a renowned vaction resort and spouses will find a wide variety of activities to explore. Spouses can shop, hike, or enjoy a relaxing massage; the only thing we ask them to refrain from is attendence in class, which due to our intensive pace, is reserved only for students. Should you be interested in attending Swiss Finance with your spouse or hosting parents during your stay and require special accomodation, kindly email admissions.

Do students have time for fun during the program?
Yes, of course. Participants are encouraged to get to know each other outside the classroom, and to take advantage of all that our facilities and the program host city have to offer. Importantly, please see the next question.

Do students have the time to travel extensively during the program?
While we make time for cultural trips and other recreational activities and excursions on weekends, our programs are not like typical summer camp. Students are required to arrive to class on-time and be prepared each day, and devote several hours outside the classroom to homework, studying and team projects. Class itself lasts for several hours each day of the week. It is not acceptable for students to miss, or depart early from, classes for travel or other purposes. While the beautiful landscape of our program setting evokes feelings and images of a perfect camp environment, our programs are designed to build strong career and job skills, and are academically very rigorous. We also have a clearly defined alcohol policy that is strictly enforced, and this policy is available for review on the following page. Students who are not willing to dedicate their 100% effort to the academic and career elements of the program must not apply. It is worth reiterating that we actually enforce the strict policies related to attendance, homework, teamwork, professionalism and every-day performance. Students who violate any of these policies are immediately removed from our program and no refund is issued.

Many students elect to travel throughout Europe at the conclusion of the program.

How do I make a tuition deposit/payment?
Accepted students receive an e-mail with payment instructions. Instructions are also available on our website on the ‘Accepted Students FAQs’ page, which can be accessed by clicking here. Payment can be made via check (electronic one-time direct debit check) or wire transfer.

How much money should students bring for personal expenses?
Program fees cover tuition, academic facility use, any weekend trips, study materials and certificate fees; accommodation and meals can be optional or mandatory depending upon the program location. For the 2010 Summer Programs in Verbier, Switzerland, room and the starter meal plan are included in the total fees stated. After the first few days, students may enroll in the meal plan for the remainder of their stay or purchase meals independently. For more detailed information about meal options in Verbier, please see the FAQs in the accpeted students' portal.

Students should bring money for incidentals, which may include the following: additional study supplies (paper, pens, pencils, etc.); meals or snacks purchased off-site; any sightseeing activities/excursions that students may do on a day off. If students plan to strictly limit their incidental expenses, we estimate that $12 per day might be enough. If they opt out of the basic meal plan offered by the school, however, then they should budget an additional $20 to $40 per day for off-campus meals, depending upon their eating habits. Dining out in Switzerland is not inexpensive. Students should think about what they may need, and budget accordingly.

Does the school provide assistance for financing a Swiss Finance education?
Swiss American Business School believes that a candidate's ability to finance his or her education should not factor into admissions decisions. So that admissions may focus soley on the merit of the candidate, we assume that all students bear responsibility for funding their education. Therefore, we do not offer financial aid or scholarships.

There is no doubt that higher education is a substantial investment. We, along with the parents who send their children here, firmly believe that Swiss Finance education offers a tremendous return on your investment. Two ways of the many ways we acheive value:
1) In terms of cost-per-hour of the top investment banking training programs, our program has the lowest cost-per-hour. Our students are in class and interacting with executives for substanitally longer hours than comprable programs.
2) Many families consider Swiss Finance education an essential supplement to university study. While many university programs excel at teaching students how to think critically, they fail to provide practical know-how, especially when it comes to the ultra-competitive world of investment banking. Swiss Finance programs are designed to fill in these gaps and show students how to leverage their university studies into a highly succesful investment banking and business career.

Can I request a copy of your program catalog?
Students who have applied and been accepted will receive a catalog in the mail. To request an adittional catalog, kindly email admissions with the participant's name, and your mailing address.

Once my son/daughter has arrived at the program location, how will he/she get to the venue?
Since our program location can change from year to year, please visit the Accepted Student Portal for the most recent and detailed information. All accepted students are sent login and password to this portal.

How do I learn about specific program details, such as accommodation arrangements, what to bring, etc.?
General program details are available on the ‘Accepted Students FAQs’ page on our website. Specific details, such as ‘what to bring’ and ‘how best to prepare’ lists, are also sent to accepted students via e-mail during the weeks preceding the program.

I have a question that is not answered on your website. How do I contact you?
